Marc is a grad student from Los Angeles doing his fieldwork at an archaeological site in the Talpiot district of Jerusalem. While excavating a 12th-century well, he uncovers ancient clay tablets written in Paleo-Hebrew. When one of the archaeologists begins translating the tablets, he realizes that this document may have been part of a deception coordinated by Temple priests and scribes in the 7th century BCE. They decide it would be wise to keep quiet about the tablets for the time being, but a disgruntled student on the dig team leaks the news to the public. The archaeologists then learn that anonymous groups want to keep any further information about the tablets from reaching the public.
